Z4000 series - Acoustic, Filtration & Technical Foams

Z4000 series - Acoustic, Filtration & Technical FoamsOur Z4000 series are open cell Polyurethane foams covering a whole range of acoustic, filtration and technical foams. The product itself is light, inexpensive and durable with many applications. Generally available as either a Polyester or Polyether type, this material is sold into a wide range of industries including: Automotive, Packaging, Cosmetic, Medical, Filtration, Retail and the Furniture & Bedding sector.

Our Z4000 foams can be made available as Flame Retardant or Non Flame Retardant grades depending upon the application.

The ingredients of the foam can be altered depending on the criteria by incorporating other chemicals and mixing at room temperature. Impregnation versions are also available for improving fire retardancy. The foam is then processed and converted for use in the above industries.

Typical Industry Applications include:

• Bath Sponges
• Car Sponges
• Sound Insulation
• Packaging
• Seating for cars, trains, planes and buses
• Furniture Foam
• Dust Proof Seals
• Cushioning
• Medical Swabs
• Colostomy Pads
• Draining Swabs
• Disinfection Pads
• Wound Dressing
• Industrial Scrubbers
• Air Filtration
• Water Filtration
• Ink jet cartridges
• Inserts for bags and suitcases

Benefits & Features:

Characteristics common to all Zouch Converters open cell Polyurethane foam products include a wide range of split thicknesses with the ability to combine adhesives or fabrics to the surface using a flame lamination technique. We can also supply as continuous rolls or sheets, die-cut pieces, kiss-cut pieces, laminated with adhesive or foils, water-jet cut and stripped, all manufactured into your individual requirements. Both of our Polyether and Polyester foams are ozone resistant and most of our Polyether grades are resistant to acid based solutions and moisture. The Polyester type is less suitable with moisture but will resist most oils and solvents. Against UV light, both grades will discolour and decompose over a period of time, especially if it is White.

Temperature Resistance:

If the products are not influenced mechanically both types are resistant to very low and relatively high temperatures. Normal application temperatures for Polyether are from -40°C to +120°C and for Polyester from -20°C to 100°C.

Colours:

Standard in Dark Grey, Light Grey or White. Custom colours available and can be matched upon request subject to minimum order quantity.

Cell Structure:

Open Cell

Special Features:

• Broad range of thickness
• Relatively low cost
• Lightweight and Durable
• Flame Retardant properties available
• Choice of softness, depending on type and grade (ultra soft to ultra firm)
• Chemical Resistant
• Static Dissipative properties available
• Broad range of densities available
• Impregnation available: Fragrances, liquids, colours, antibacterial
• Hydrophilic to Hydrophobic

Surface Texture:

Surface can be varied with laminations such as: Aluminum Foils for reflecting heat, films for improving quality and to ensure that the product is tear or puncture resistant. We can also apply a non woven or technical fabric if needed.

Certifications:

Flammability to methods FMVSS302, UL94 HF1, UL94 V0, and BS 476 Parts 6 & 7 Class “0” are all available upon request and dependent on application. The general standard grades are non flame retardant. Certain types are also available as Anti-static. Please contact us for more details.

Tolerances:

The thickness tolerances are dependent on product type, grade and nominal thickness. Please contact us for more details.

Adhesives:

All our Polyurethane foams (except for reticulated filtration foams) can be laminated with a pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA). Depending on application, we offer either a general purpose rubber adhesive on various substrates such as tissue, polyester or scrim which can be produced as a permanent or peelable type. We also offer water based acrylic adhesives (permanent or peelable type); Solvent based adhesives and “skin friendly” adhesives. The “skin friendly” adhesive is commonly used in the medical industry and has been tested with its Primary Irritation Index (P.I.I) calculated to 0.55 (slightly irritating) in accordance with criteria of ECETOC (European Center for Ecotoxicology and Toxicology of Chemicals).

Fabrication Tip:

If purchasing our Z4000 series plain (without a PSA) in roll or sheet format, and you do decide to apply your own type of adhesive, equally important as the control of material stability, is the application of adhesive films and tapes. Regardless of whether the film is a supported membrane (tissue or Mylar) or even if it’s simply a cast film. The film must be applied in a fashion to absolutely minimize any stretching that might occur from pressure rolls or conveyors or even hand rolling that might introduce stretch or distortions in the foam. In time, the materials will creep and return to their unstressed sizes, similar to natural shrinkage and the product is lost. Product must be allowed to reside in a relaxed state as the film or tape is applied.

Formats:

Standard Widths: 1000mm and 1500mm wide in sheets or rolls

Standard Thickness: 3mm (minimum) to 1000mm in 1mm intervals if necessary

Standard Length: 2000mm and 2340mm in sheets or in continuous peeled rolls at 1000mm or 1500m

Standard Density: 23 Kgs/m3 / 28 Kgs/m3 / 60 Kgs/m3 (others available upon request)

*** NEW PRODUCT - Visco-Elastic Memory Foam ***

Our Z4000 series covers all aspects of Polyurethane foams. Our memory foam falls into this category and is a unique, Visco-Elastic material originated by NASA to ease the pressure of extreme G-Force during shuttle take off.

It will conform to shape under the influence of heat and pressure. Different densities and levels of hardness are available but usually standard around 70 Kgs/m3.

Memory foam is made from polyurethane with additional chemicals that add to its viscosity level, thereby increasing its density. Depending on the chemicals used and its overall density, it is firmer in cooler temperatures and softer in warmer environments. Higher density memory foam reacts to body heat which allows it to mould itself to the shape of a warm body within a few minutes. A lower density memory foam is pressure-sensitive and will mould more quickly to the shape of the body. The example often used to demonstrate its properties is that a hand pressed into the foam and then removed will leave a clear impression in the foam as shown in our image.

We manufacture the product in large buns at 1000mm wide x 2000mm long x 250mm thick, but this can be accurately slit using a unique process within a tight tolerance to your ideal thickness. We can also die-cut, laminate or buffer the foam to create other items.

Current uses include Bed mattresses and Toppers, Wheelchair seats and cushions, Orthopedic Insoles, Acoustics and cushioning applications for sports helmets and headgear. As this material is relatively new to the market, there are many still to be developed applications for this extremely versatile material.
