Z3000 series - Packaging & Insulation - Polyethylene Foam
The Z3000 series are closed cell Polyethylene foam available in extruded rolls or block format (buns).
These Polyethylene foams are manufactured as either irradiation or chemically cross-linked and provide a growing number of diverse markets with a low-cost, lightweight foam, high performance material option for packaging and insulation.
Our cross-linked, closed-cell Polyethylene foams offer significant advantages over traditional rubber or sponge based materials. They have a high strength-to-weight ratio, pleasing aesthetics and texture and are fast becoming the foam material choice for new applications.
Being a closed-cell foam material, it will not allow easy penetration of liquids into the material.

Benefits & Features
Characteristics common to all Zouch Converters closed-cell Polyethylene foam products include a wide variety of colours and thickness, reduced weight in comparison to other materials, lower costs and also being non-toxic. They also insulate in thermal, electrical and sound applications. The foam is fully recyclable and contains no CFC or HCFC blowing agents.
Colours
Black and White as standard. Custom colours available and can be matched upon request subject to minimum order quantity.
Manufacturing Process:
Physically cross-linked foams are manufactured in accordance with the continuous, three stage, vertical foaming process (extrusion, cross linking, foaming).
Cell Structure:
Closed Cell
Special Features:
· Broad range of thickness
· Very low cost
· Broad range of colours
· Lightweight and Durable
· Moisture and Chemical resistant
· Static Dissipative properties available
· Flame Retardant properties available
· Low water absorption values
· Choice of softness, depending on type and grade
Surface Texture
Available as standard in Cell/Cell (chemically cross-linked only) or Skin/Skin (physically cross-linked only). Generally speaking, the physically cross-linked foams (irradiation) have a much smoother surface texture and a more fine-cell structure than those foams of a chemically cross-linked nature.
Where a higher wetting surface tension is required for post fabrication (e.g. adhesive coating, printing, glueing, etc), the physically cross-linked foams are Corona treated as standard.
Certifications
Flammability grades to method FMVSS302 or DIN 4102 - B1 or B2, available upon request.
Tolerances
The thickness tolerances are depending on product type, grade and nominal thickness.
The method of measurement is in accordance with ISO 1923.
Physically Cross-linked foam (standard density of 33 Kgs/m3) tolerances are as follows:
1.0mm = +/- 0.15mm
1.5mm = +/- 0.20mm
2.0mm = +/- 0.25mm
3.0mm = +/- 0.30mm
4.0mm = +/- 0.35mm
5.0mm = +/- 0.40mm
6.0mm = +/- 0.50mm
7.0mm = +/- 0.60mm
8.0mm = +/- 0.70mm
9.0mm = +/- 0.80mm
10.00mm = +/- 0.90mm
12.00mm = +/- 1.10mm
15.00mm = +/- 1.30mm
Adhesives
All polyethylene foams can be laminated or coated with a Pressure Sensitive Adhesive (PSA). As mentioned above in the Surface Texture section, the physically cross-linked foams are Corona treated as standard to enable a much better bond from surface to adhesive helping to prevent unnecessary delamination.
We are able to offer a broad range of adhesives dependent on application. They include Modified, Pure and Solvent Acrylics, and also Hot-melt and rubber adhesives in a variety of carriers including: tissues, scrims, polyesters, polyprops and transfers, produced with a variety of release papers or filmic liners for ease of application. Please call our sales team so that we can help recommend the most compatible adhesive for the product and application.
Please remember the cleaning of all surfaces prior to applying the product. In order to use our materials with optimal effect, the surfaces must be dry, exempt from dust, separating agents and oil. It is also important that fingers do not contact the adhesive surface during installation.
Fabrication Tip
If purchasing our material plain (without PSA), and decide to apply your own type of adhesive, equally important as the control of material stability, is the application of adhesive films and tapes. Regardless of whether the film is a supported membrane (tissue or Mylar) or even if it's simply a cast film. The film must be applied in a fashion to absolutely minimize any stretching that might occur from pressure rolls or conveyors or even hand rolling that might introduce stretch or distortions in the foam. In time, the materials will creep and return to their unstressed sizes, similar to natural shrinkage and the product is lost. Product must be allowed to reside in a relaxed state as the film or tape is applied.
Formats
Standard Widths Standard Thickness Standard Length Standard Density
